Hello Greater Atlanta Members!
I am Lisa M. Gooden and I have the opportunity to address you regarding ASQ Certification. You may remember my name as “Chief Proctor” on your seating letter, whenever you have taken ASQ exams. Many of your names and faces are familiar to me as examinees and assistant proctors. I have been your Certification Chair since 1995 and consequently, meet your anxious faces at check-in on exam day.
Like you, I have anxiously taken exams and have had the good fortune of passing many of them. You might think, “Of course! She has access to the exams that she plans to take”. Truthfully, the ASQ is smarter than I am. Whenever a chief or assistant proctor wishes to take an exam, he or she must not have access to that exam for at least one year prior to exam day. Rest assured…I couldn’t cheat!
According to the ASQ, certification has been rated as one of the top-three valued benefits of ASQ membership since 1991. The Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) exam was first offered in 1968. Over 40 years later, seventeen exams are now offered. (Visit www.asq.org for details.) As of March 2009, over 56,000 CQE certifications had been issued, followed by nearly 41,000 CQA (Certified Quality Auditor) certifications. ASQ statistics indicate that 1.7 million certifications across all exams were issued as of March 2009. Wow! Keep in mind that many professionals hold multiple certifications; therefore, the 1.7 million is unlikely to represent 1.7 million people.
Internet research led me to exam pass rate statistics attributed to the Quality Council of Indiana. The following pass rates were reported (12/94-3/05) in descending order: CQIA 84%, CSSBB 76%, CCT 72%, CQA 70%, CQM 62%, CSQE 60%, CMI 58%, CRE 51%, CQT 50%, AND CQE 43%. (Disclaimer: I take no responsibility or credit for the accuracy of these percentages. Furthermore, these data were not provided by the ASQ). |
