Starting the new year we have the opportunity to reflect on the past, as we remember it, and to look forward to the future as we strive to improve ourselves and our environment. Some find this a good time for making plans for the next year and for making resolutions that would help enable the plans to become reality.
I am reminded of some of the works Dr. Deming is recognized as promoting…
“Once the individual understands the system of profound knowledge, he will apply its principles in every kind of relationship with other people. He will have a basis for judgment of his own decisions and for transformation of the organizations that he belongs to. The individual, once transformed, will:
· Set an example;
· Be a good listener, but will not compromise;
· Continually teach other people; and
· Help people to pull away from their current practices and beliefs and move into the new philosophy without a feeling of guilt about the past.”
Deming’s PDCA:
PLAN - Establish the objectives and processes necessary to deliver results in accordance with the expected output (the target or goals).
DO - Implement the plan, execute the process, make the product.
CHECK - Study the actual results.
ACT - Request corrective actions on significant differences between actual and planned results.
I am looking forward to starting this new year with my colleagues as we all embrace change and become catalysts for change within our own scope and sphere of influence.
It is with deep regret to announce that David Dubois (Chair – Newsletter Committee) has indicated his position will be open for the next ASQ cycle.
